GO GREEN!!
Earth Day is April 22, so we are planning activities to remind us of our
responsibility in contributing to the health and well-being of our planet.

What's New in Math This Month?
Over the next month, we'll be working on skip counting, using our calculators to
identify patterns in adding numbers, using arrays to lay the groundwork for
multiplication, using "equal shares" story problems to introduce division, determining
medians, collecting data, and graphing results. Following this unit of study, we will
work on fractions, using lots of hands-on learning to help clarify the concepts
associated with fractions. Get your pizzas, cakes, and cookies ready!

Language Arts/Spelling/Vocabulary
We are now introducing the concept of Wordly Wise. Students will be learning new
words as well as the definitions. We will be alternating every other week. This will
help our students be able to know how to spell the word and know the definitions.

We will also begin cursive the week of April 14th. We will begin with the motions
(upward slant, downward slant etc). After completing this, we will begin with the
individual letters. They will put the letters together next year.

Social Studies and Science:
We continue to do research on our state projects and hope to have them completed the
week after ITBS. I will let you know the schedule of presentations so that you can
join us if possible. In Science we are studying heat, changes in matter, and enjoying
another Science Court. Ask you child what the Science Court was about. Do you want a
black shirt or a white shirt to wear??? We will be doing some experiments (if we get
any sun) to test out our hypotheses. In addition, we will be celebrating EARTH DAY on
Wednesday, April 22.
