HOW DO I READ YOUR SYLLABUS?

Good question. The day the reading assignment or other
assignment
appears
on is when it's due. For example, if you have Article Review 1.1
listed
on
Sept. 1, it's due that day when you come to class. If it says
pgs. 1-130 ??
on ??????
that day, you should have read and studied those pages before
coming
to ??????
class.

WHAT IS A MAJOR OPPORTUNITY?

A major opportunity or MO is what other teachers call tests. I
choose to
see
them as major opportunities for you to excel and demonstrate what
you know.

DO YOU GIVE POP TESTS ON ASSIGNED READING?

Yes I do, but I call them Popurtunities. See Question #2. A
popurtunity
may
be on the night's assigned reading or the notes you made in class
the
previous day.

WHAT IS AN ARTICLE REVIEW?

You will find, read and review newspaper, magazine, and journal
articles ??
so ????
that we can discuss them in class. Check out the Review Format
and a ??
Sample ????
Article Review on the Handouts page. These reviews are great
opportunities ????
for us all to read on the same subject, write a review, and then
discuss ??
it ????
in class.

WHAT DOES

It means that there will be some multiple choice, some vocabulary
terms
to ????
identify or define, and some longer essay type responses to write.

WHAT IS A MAJOR WRITING OPPORTUNITY?

We will write an essay in class. Sometimes I'll allow you to use
all of ??
the ????
resources you have, and sometimes I will not. If you're
apprehensive ??
about ????
this, don't be. I'll teach you how to do it.

WHAT IF YOU RETURN A MAJOR OPPORTUNITY TO ME AND I THINK YOU'VE MADE A MISTAKE?

Correcting or Justifying a Major Opportunity is a great critical
thinking ????
process. First, I don't do that in class. See the Justifying a
Major ????
Opportunity on the Handouts Page.

HOW DO I GET YOU TO CORRECT A MISTAKE ON MY PROGRESS REPORT?

See grade corrections or correcting grades on the Handouts Page.

WHY SHOULD I GIVE YOU MY PERSONAL EMAIL ADDRESS?

First of all, you certainly don't have to give me an email
address. There ??
are at least three very good reasons for doing so however. First,
I'm ??
sending your parent(s) an electronic grade report (I call them
progress ??
reports) every week. You need to get that as well so that you can
correct ??
it. Second, I sometimes send notes via email and save trees.
Third, ??
sometimes I send you announcements that you would like to get
before you ??
come to class.

Are Study Guides mandatory? (Do I have to do them?)

No, most of the time they are not mandatory. However, some that I
assign
will be. I'll tell you that when I assign the Study Guide. You
don't have
to do them, but, done correctly, they give you good notes to
study not only
for Major Opportunities, but also the Benchmark Exams and the
Finals. they
also help your grade by counting as a Daily Grade and an addition
to your
Major Opportunity grade.

What does

It means the assignment was for extra credit. It can help you
but not hurt
you. The "opt" means it was optional, not required, and
you chose not to do
it.

What does a blank space mean in my grade report?

It means that you have not been excused from an assignment, I
just don't
have a grade for you. For example, on the day you were absent, we
did an in
class exercise. After a week, if you have not made up the work
you missed, the grade becomes a zero.
BECOMES A ZERO.
