What time should my child be at school?

"Elementary & Middle School:
School starts promptly at 8:00 am for the Elementary & Middle
School Campus (1st through 8th Grade). Students who arrive after
8:10 am are considered tardy, and their parent must walk their
child to the foyer and sign the child in with the receptionist.

Tardiness will be recorded on the student’s attendance record.
Excessive student tardiness will be addressed by school
administrators." (in student handbook)

School officially begins at 8:00, you should try to get
your child to school between 7:40 and 8:00. Each morning we
start at 8:00 am with important announcements, acknowledgements,
prayer, and the Pledge of Allegiance. Your child should not miss
this important community time. At 8:10 your child goes to
homeroom, unpacks, and prepares for first period. The first
class begins promptly at 8:15. Should your child not arrive on
time, his/her will day start off very hurried and stressed as
your child tries to unpack and get to his/her first class.

What should my child wear to school?

Your child should come to school in the school uniform. Please have your child bring his/her PE uniform in a bag to change
into when it is time for PE. We have PE everyday at 2:15 so students will change for PE and then will go home in their
PE uniform. PLEASE label everything. All items labeled can easily be returned to the student. All other items end up in
the lost and found.

Will my child have a lot of homework in Second Grade?

While the expectations increase and the curriculum becomes more
challenging, your child should not have more than 30 minutes of
homework each evening. Your child should read and practice math
facts each evening. These are important skills that only improve
with time and effort. Your child will also have other
assignments that should reinforce what we are doing in class. If
your child struggles with his/her homework, please send in a note
with your child. It is our job to help your child understand the
material.

Does Second Grade have snack time?

We have snack every morning around 9:00 am. Please send in a
healthy snack everyday. We prefer for students to bring in dry
snacks in case we have a "working snack" in class where there is
work on a student's desk during snack. Some examples of dry
snacks: crackers, raisins, granola, fruit snacks, cheese ritz
bits, grapes, teddy grahams, etc. No nut products of any kind, candy or sugary treats.

outside for PE. Please make sure that your child's water bottle
is clearly marked with your child's name.

(they must have the NDA crest on it) in the classroom. The NDA
nylon jacket is for outdoor use only. Please label all items.

Does my child have PE and snack on half days?

What is the Second Grade policy for celebrating a birthday?

We understand how important birthdays are for 2nd graders.
However, because we have close to 60 children in 2nd grade, we
cannot celebrate as a group in the cafeteria. You may, however,
arrange a small celebration with your child's teacher. Please
contact your teacher 1 week prior to the birthday so the teacher
can let you know what days are available. All food items should
be nut free.

Winter Uniform begins on Tuesday, October 11. What should my child wear?

Your child will continue to wear the same pants/skirt as the
summer uniform. The shoes and socks do not change either. Every
day your child will wear a white OXFORD shirt (short or long
sleeved) with the NDA logo on it. On Mondays (MASS days) your
child must wear the NDA vest with the school crest on it and the
school tie/cross tie. The rest of the week, your child can choose
to wear a vest, a cardigan, or a pullover sweater. It must be
hunter green WITH the NDA crest on it. Fridays are still spirit
wear days, so the uniform requirements stay the same. We will
continue to have PE in the mornings, so your child will come to
school in his/her PE uniform. Make sure your child has warmer PE
clothes (NDA sweatshirt/NDA sweatpants) because your child cannot
wear non-uniform clothes to PE.

As it gets colder, what kind of coats/jackets can my child wear to school?

Your child may wear any coat/jacket to and from school, as well
as at recess. These coats/jackets are NOT allowed to be worn
inside the school (in class, etc). An NDA fleece or NDA nylon
jacket can be worn over PE sweatsuits if necessary. The NDA
fleece is allowed in the classrooms, but the nylon jacket is not
to be worn in class.
