March 27
In class: Art 21 videos on artists
For each artist, answer the following questions after watching the video (12-15 min).
1) List their "Restraints," (at least 5) or the ways their work is limited by materials, space, subject matter, or time.
2) Then consider how these restraints have helped open up a big idea, or the reason the artist creates the artwork. List 5 "Openings" in this way. [Think back to our class discussion].
3) Compare the 2 artists. In what ways has limiting themselves helped them in sharing their ideas? In what way have their social or religious restraints helped them explore their artwork?
4) Create 2 restraints for your self in this next project. ONE is physical. ONE is social/behavioral. Come ready to discuss and begin working on Thursday.
