Dear Parents,
Our class will be praying a decade of the rosary in Mary's Garden every morning at 8:30am M-F next week for the students and chaperones going to Italy from April 28th - May 4th. These are the intentions our class came up with.
Dear 8th Graders,
We hope you are safe and don't get lost. We hope you don't get sick and have lots of fun and have a good time. We hope you are all nice to each other and that you have enough beds to sleep in. We hope you are good. We hope you stay together and listen to your teachers. We hope you eat a lot of pizza! We hope you like all the food you eat.
Love,
Mrs. Roome's Kindergarten Class
Please keep the 8th graders in your prayers as they travel to Italy.
We are in need of a few glue sticks. Any donations would be welcome.

Dear Parents,
CHEST OF DRAWERS—WEDNESDAY, APRIL 18
This week Fifth Grade will be collecting clothing for our annual “Chest of Drawers” drive. Every year we support our service-learning partner, Refugee Resettlement, with new clothes for recently resettled children. To quote our contact, “Starting over in the US can be very overwhelming but these families are very excited for the opportunities that the children will have, living in the United States.”
As fate would have it, we have the chance to support two families this year! We will be collecting for four separate children—a pair in each family. With a broad divergence in ages, we have assigned each child specific grades. Please prayerfully consider donating new, unused clothing to these new arrivals in our country. If you feel called to assist, Wednesday, April 18, is our collection day.
Early Years Campus:
14 months girl, size 15 months, 18 months or 2T (so she can grow into them)
The depth of our school community’s generosity never ceases to amaze. Thank you in advance!
Easter blessings,
The Fifth Grade Team

Dear Parents,
Every morning we share prayer intentions as a class before we pray either the Hail Mary or the Our Father. Your children are very generous and thoughtful as they offer up their intentions each day. This morning we discussed that I would send today’s intentions to the parents so that you could be praying at home for our intentions and have a peek into your children’s hearts-although today’s prayers might be completely different from another day’s prayers. Some days they pray for themselves, other days they pray for their friends and still other times they include needs of other people in the world.
Prayer Intentions from Thursday, March 29, 2012
Owen-for Erin’s mom and dad
Nicholas- that his family will make a good decision about where to go for spring break
Landon-for Landon and her cousins to have a safe trip to the mountains
Alyssa-for Sarah and Alyssa’s playdate and for Alyssa to have a safe trip to her new home in Florida
Sydney-for her cousin Derek’s senior pictures and for him to find a job
Sophia-for robbers not to take things and for robbers not to make bad choices anymore and for robbers to go to jail
Kangsan-for his dad to have a safe trip back to Atlanta
Jake-for him and his dad to get better from being sick
Sarah-for her new dog when they get one
Erin-for her new baby cousin to be safe when born
Aedan-for her eye to get better
Sofia-for a safe trip for Alyssa
Josh-for all sick people in the hospitals to get better and for people with cancer to get better
Palmer-for his family to have safe travels to San Francisco
Leo-for his friends not to get sick
Mrs. Roome-for her mom who is having surgery next week

Dear Parents,
You might have seen the link below on NDA's Facebook. This is a great opportunity for you as parents to let the community know what a great Preschool we have at NDA. It would be great for you to take a minute to add our name to the list of schools and possibly leave a comment why you feel NDA is so great:).
We had a wonderful trip to Turner Field and the children were very well behaved. When I asked the children what their favorite part of the trip was many of the children responded with," Best hot dogs ever!" Thank you to all the chaperones who supplied the food and drinks, it was delicious and most welcome after our tour.
As we get closer to the end of the year we will be sending out many different dates. The first one will be on April 23rd when we will be going for a quick tour of First Grade and the main campus. The tour will be followed by our last mass at the EMS campus. All parents are invited to join us for this. More detailed information will follow closer to the time.
All the children are running very low on their Twistable Colored Pencils. Please could you send in a new pack for your child.
We are also very low on extra snacks for those who forget theirs at home, any donations would be welcome.

Dear Parents,
As part of our current PYP Unit of Inquiry, "It's Symbolic", we are asking each kindergarten student to research two international symbols. The international symbols our class will research are The Statue of Liberty and The Eiffel Tower. We would like for each student to write down a fact or two about each symbol on an index card after doing research at home (one index card or similar size paper for The Statue of Liberty, one for The Eiffel Tower). Please have students bring in their facts by Thursday. Large replicas of these international symbols will be displayed in the hallway of the media center at the EYC surrounded by interesting facts our kindergarten students bring in about each one.
Have fun learning about these symbols with your child!

Dear Parents,
Please remember tomorrow is a half day as well as "Can the Khaki's". So the children may wear jeans and spirit wear if they bring in vitamins. Here is the information we received from third grade.
The Third Grade will be continuing their tradition of assisting Amigos for Christ as they help children in Nicaragua with a vitamin drive on Wednesday December 7th. These vitamins are given to over 900 children who attend the schools in Nicaragua run by Amigos for Christ after they eat their one hot meal each day!
You can help us with this worthy effort by showing your students the commercial, linked below, sometime over the next couple of days. Also, please talk to them about the following critical information:
1. All vitamins must be the hard chewable kind (NO GUMMIES please!)
2. The expiration date should by December 2012 or later on the vitamins brought in
3. MOST IMPORTANTLY- Each bottle of vitamins must be a sealed unopened container (for younger grades please emphasis that fact that vitamins are NOT candy- they are medicine and must be unopened to be safe!)
Thank you for your time and in helping to spread the news about this cause!
See you at the book fair.

On the day of our Christmas party, December 16th, parents will join us for a celebration and a special performance at 8:30 am. We will be performing a nativity scene. Your children volunteered for and selected their characters. Please have your child wear a simple costume (headpiece (if appropriate) and sheet, robe, etc) that reflects the character they have chosen below. Please do not go out and purchase anything. We need some sheep as props if you happen to have a stuffed one that we could borrow. You will receive a copy of your child's line/lines for the performance . Please help your child learn their line at home, and we will also be practicing in the classroom daily.
Here is our cast list -
Wise Men - Bryce, Josh, Owen
Angels - Leo, Jake, Alyssa, Erin, Sofia
Shepherds - Landon, Aedan, Sydney,
Mary - Sarah
Joseph - Joseph ( will need a lantern )
Innkeeper - Josh ( two roles - can use same costume, just add a crown for the wise man)
Narrator - Nicholas (any time period costume)
Unfortunately Kangsan will be out of town. We will all miss him.
Innkeeper and Wise Men need to be colorful and have crowns.
The Christmas Party and performance will take place at 8:30 am on Friday, December 16th, and all students will be dismissed from the party (not 11:45 dismissal). The party will go until approximately 9:30 - 10 am.
On Wednesday, December 14th we will have our annual "Polar Express Pajama Day" at the EYC. All students are invited to wear their favorite PJs. They may also wear a robe and slippers, but all students need to bring shoes appropriate for PE/recess as well. We ask that each child brings in one packet of hot chocolate. If we have a parent that would like to send in cups for hot beverages and one box of popcorn, please let me know. Also, if we have a family in our class that owns and would be willing to share their copy of the movie "Polar Express", we would love to borrow it. Thanks in advance!
We will also be doing a Secret Santa book exchange on the last day of school. A letter will be coming home in the Thursday folder with more information.

Dear Parents,
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break with your family and enjoyed the great weather. I was so proud of the children on Tuesday, they did an awesome job for all the grandparents. Thank you to all the parents who brought in snacks and a big thank you to Mrs. Mentesana for doing the video of all the children for the grandparents, it was precious.
Please remember that we will be going to mass tomorrow and all children will need a booster seat.

Dear Parents,
Friday, December 9th the Kindergarten classes will be going on a field trip to the Gwinnett Ballet Company’s Nutcracker performance at the Gwinnett Performing Arts Center. This year, the maximum amount of tickets that we were able to purchase from the ballet company allows us to take 5 chaperones per class. Unfortunately, they do not have extra tickets available this year. Preference will be given to parents who can transport at least 4 children in booster seats. Since the venue cannot accommodate all parents, we will try our best to give all parents the opportunity to join us on a field trip during the course of the year. So if you are available to transport children to the show please let me know.
Thank you in advance for your understanding.
Tuesday, November 22nd is Grandparents Day (or Special Friends Day if grandparents cannot come - aunt/uncle/godparent/parent). We will begin our festivities promptly at 8:30 am to allow visitors to make it to the main campus by 10 am for older siblings musical performances. We will dismiss from Grandparents Day activities that morning. No lunch is served and no After Care is provided that day. You will be free to begin your Thanksgiving holiday after our morning program. Coffee and donuts will be available before the presentation for all visitors. A shuttle will run between the two campuses and from the parking lot. Please remember to park across the street from the school.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Dear Parents,
We are sending home folders today with permission slips for mass and with a "Turkeys in Disguise" project. You will receive a blank turkey cutout to decorate anyway you wish to disguise your turkey. In the past we have had turkeys disguised as priests, nuns, cheerleaders, army men, Star Wars characters, favorite team mascots, etc. Feel free to use any materials of your choosing to dress and disguise your turkey. Markers, cloth, sequins, yarn, etc, etc! Have fun and be creative. This is an optional project, but I hope that all will consider participating. Please try to return the turkeys by Friday (or Monday at the latest) so that your child will have a chance to present his/her "Turkey in Disguise" to his/her friends and we can display them for Grandparents Day.
Have a wonderful week.

Dear Parents,
Please remember to send in your self-addressed and stamped envelope for Grandparents/Special Friends Day. We will mail these invitations on Friday at the latest.
On Thursday we will travel to Great Harvest Bread Company for a field trip supporting our Community Helpers unit. Thank you to all of our drivers! If you still wish to join us, please email me to let me know. The more, the merrier! ALL STUDENTS MUST HAVE A CAR OR BOOSTER SEAT ON Thursday as per the new law passed this summer. We will be unable to transport students without a car seat or booster seat.
Please remember that our Community Helpers presentations will be on Friday, November 11th at 8:30 am. Please have your child dressed as their favorite community helper ( this can just be over the spirt wear, added to it, or they can bring spirit wear to change into). They may have tools of the trade and should know several facts about that community helper (who they are, what they do, and how they help the community). We will get started at 8:30 am sharp.
We already have some great buildings/homes that the children have made. Please remember to send your building in by Thursday.

Hello to our wonderful NDA parents!
With an extremely busy Fall and Holiday season upon us, we want to ensure that our NDA families know about all of the great things going on here at school! Our Advancement Department is making a concerted effort to ensure that we communicate all of our upcoming events in various formats. Therefore, each time there is something new & unique going on at school, we will make sure that the message is clearly conveyed to our families in at least 3 of the 4 communication vehicles listed below:
- EMAIL: A weekly Constant Contact newsletter is sent out to our Board, all parents, all faculty, all staff, and all friends of NDA every Friday at approximately 10am EST. This email details everything coming up "Next Week" at the school, highlighting noteworthy reminders at the top and bottom of the weekly agenda-format email. Please be sure that you check your email Inbox (as well as Junk Mail folder, as Constant Contact emails can easily end up there) each Friday so that you and your family know "What's Happening Next Week" at NDA!
- NDA WEBSITE: We make daily updates to the NDA School Calendar and the "Announcements" page (under the Current Parents tab). Both of these locations can provide detailed information on everything from the monthly lunch menus, to athletic practice & game schedules, to current volunteer needs at the school!
- FACEBOOK: Have you "Liked" NDA on Facebook? If not, be sure to hop online and click on the blue&white "F" Facebook logo positioned at the base of our NDA homepage! This is great way to not only see reminders about important upcoming school events, but also see fantastic follow-up photos and communication once an event has taken place!
- MESSAGE BOARDS at MORNING STUDENT DROP-OFF: for those parents who drop-off their child (or children) in the morning at the EYC or Main Campus, please make sure that you take a moment to read the very brief description on thefreestanding message boards located out in the front of both buildings. These signs generally re-emphasize something important taking place at school on that day or the following day.
We THANK each & every one of YOU for your continued involvement and support of our school during this busy time of year!
We love our NDA families!
Have wonderful weekend.
The children did an awesome job today, I was so proud of all of them. Those who were a little hesitant in front of you this morning, all did a great job later when we were handing out the saint cards.
You will find their fun run t-shirts in their folders today with a permission slip to ride on the bus to the EMS as well. Please return the permission slip by tomorrow.
For the fun run please dress your child in their green t-shirt, shorts/sweatpants and sneakers. We will leave for the EMS at 8:45 by bus to start by 9:00am. You may check your child out after the fun run from me or they may come back to the EYC for dismissal at 11:30am. If you plan to go straight to the EMS on Wednesday and not drop your child off at the EYC, please let me know not to expect your child first thing in the morning.
Please remember we have mass this morning, so you need to send in booster seats for your children.
I know how busy this time of the year is so I wanted to give you some information about our upcoming summative assessment on Community Helpers.
We will be having our summative assessment for all that we have learned about Community Helpers by having the children choose a job they might like to do when they grow up and dressing up in character. This will be happening on Friday, November 11 at 8:30am. Parents are welcome to attend.
Thank you all for meeting with me last week, if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me.The children started bringing home their readers this week. Please be sure to read the book with them every day and make sure it comes back to school the next morning.
With the cooler weather the children have all been wearing their vests, sweaters and jackets. Please ensure that they are clearly marked with your child's name.
Important Dates.
