Homework

Please check their folders on the language arts paper for any homework due.
All homework is due on Fridays along with spelling and sight word tests. I
will occasionally give pretests on Thursday and if they pass they will not
have to take the spelling test.

Do Xtra math every night!

Sight words and spelling word activity ideas:

-	Write your spelling and or sight words in a tray of shaving cream,
salt, sugar or sand. (Parents just put a small amount of any one of these
materials on a cookie sheet and let your child write these words in these
materials).

-	Write your words on an index card in highlighter for your child, and
then have your child trace the words. These cards then can be kept at home
to study from. (Heard this one from a parent!)

-	Have your child record themselves saying their spelling words and
then spelling them. Allow the child to listen to this tape during the
week. This can be done with sight words also; they would say the sight word
then spell the sight word.

-	Hang sight words on the mirror where your child brushes their teeth,
and have them say the sight words while brushing their teeth. They will
have to say five words before they can spit, and then brush again for
another five. This gets them brushing their teeth longer (good for them and
the dentist) and they learn their words. (A parent told me this one also!)

-	Write words three times each.

-	Write sentences using spelling and or sight words, or write a story
with them. Underline the words used.

-	Make a memory game with your sight words on cards.

-	Do exercises while reciting sight or spelling words. (ex: touching
toes and reaching for the sky, reach up say b, touch toes and say
u,
reach up and say g, touch toes and say the word bug).

-	Draw a picture and write your spelling words or sight words in your
picture.
(Example: draw a flower and write the words in the petals)

-	Rainbow words: Write your words and make each letter a different
color.

-	Put finger paint, ketchup, mustard or pudding in a zip lock bag
and then let your child write with their finger on the top of the bag to
spell sight words or spelling words.

-	Use a magnadoodle if you have one to write your words.
-	Use magnetic letters and your fridge door, or cookie sheet and
have children spell their words.

- Put words in ABC order.

You can also get creative and come up with your own ideas to help your child
with their sight words, spelling words, or vocabulary. Please share if you
have any suggestions of items we could add to the list.
