Welcome to Burnette's Media Center! I know this is going
to be a very exciting and productive year here at Burnette Elementary! My name
is Kim Hanley and I am the Media Specialist. This is my 14th year in Gwinnett
County Schools. Previously,I was a classroom teacher for two years in
kindergarten and 7 years in second grade.Prior to receiving my teaching
certification I was a Special Education Paraprofessional in the Autism
Resource Program for two years at Harbins Elementary and a Kindergarten
Paraprofessional for two years at Harmony Elementary.
I grew up in Plano, Texas but have lived in the Atlanta area for 30 years. I
graduated from Georgia State University and completed my teaching
certificate at North Georgia College and State University.I graduated with my
Master's degree in Library Science from Georgia State University.
My husband Matthew and I live in the Hamilton Mill area. We have two
beautiful children.Noah will be a Senior at Southern Polytechnic and State
University in Marietta majoring in Civil Engineering. He also plays right
field for their baseball team.Kylee will be a sophmore at Kennesaw State
University and is majoring in Nursing. Our family is complete with one cat,
one Golden Doodle and a Shih Tzu. My favorite pastimes are watching my
children in their activities, reading, sports, and gardening.
My goal is to create the best Media program in Gwinnett County! My philosophy
for the media center is : To provides all members of the school community
with access to information, reading and research assistance, and instruction
that supports the curricula and educational goals of our school. Integration
of the Library Media Center Program with the curricula fosters a partnership
with teachers and ensures that information skills are an integral part of
learning so that students will be able to function successfully in the
information society. The Library Media Program extends and enhances
classroom experiences and stimulates the development of a lifelong love and
appreciation of reading and learning.
I look forward to working with you and your children this year!
To guide, motivate, and inspire our students toward becoming 21st Century
Learners and lifelong readers.
