What is taught in Physical Education?
Our physical education curriculum includes a balance of skills, concepts,
games, rhythms and dance experiences designed to enhance the cognitive,
motor, affective and physical fitness development of every child.
--------------------------------------
How can we help at home?
Being physically fit has many benefits including more energy, muscular
endurance, and a stronger heart. At home, encourage your child to get
outside and do some activity at least 3 times per week for 30 minutes such
as walking the dog, riding their bike or playing a game. Just get moving and
not sitting in front of the tv or computer.
--------------------------------------
PE rule #1
Active participation in all activities is necessary if your child is to fully
benefit from our program and build a healthy body.
--------------------------------------
PE rule #2
Good sportsmanship, good behavior, and a good attitude are strongly
encouraged and promoted.
--------------------------------------
PE rule #3
Good listening skills, paying attention, and following directions are
expected.
--------------------------------------
PE rule #4
Please dress your child appropriately for physical education. Their
clothing should be comfortable and should not prevent them from
taking part in the activities. It is not safe for children to wear large,
or hoop earrings during physical education classes. Girls must wear
shorts under skirts or dresses for physical education classes.
--------------------------------------
PE rule #5
Students must wear proper athletic shoes, to prevent injury. They
should not wear sandals, shoes with heels, or backless shoes
(including backless tennis shoes). Your child’s safety is our first
concern. If your child is not appropriately dressed, we will not allow
them to participate in Physical Education.
--------------------------------------
PE rule #6
In case of illness or injury that must limit or exclude your child’s
participation in physical education, please send a note to the PE
teachers excusing them or describing any limitations. After 3 days of not
participating in PE a note from a doctor is needed.
--------------------------------------
PE rule #7
Equipment in physical education is equivalent to a textbook in other
subject areas. Your child will be held responsible for any damages
caused by their misuse of any equipment.
--------------------------------------
PE rule #8
Your child will receive a Physical Education grade. The P.E. grade is
based on participation, skill, attitude, proper dress, and staying on task.
Excessive non-participation may result in a lower grade.
--------------------------------------
PE rule #9
Students will be sent to “Time Out” if they are not following our
expected behaviors. After 2 time outs during a 9-week grading period,
we will send home a note that must be signed by a parent and a parent
conference may be needed.
