Second Step
The Second Step Program is a violence prevention curriculum that teaches children skills to reduce impulsive behavior and increase their level of social competence. It is divided into the three main areas of empathy training, impulse control and anger management. The character education traits are taught by the teachers and are fully scripted lessons and the activity plans are easily integrated into language arts, health and social studies. Every staff member in a school receives training on how to implement the program. The program also contains a family component to strengthen the link between school and home.
