We realize that entering kindergarten is an important milestone for a
child. It is an exciting experience and should be a very enjoyable one for
the child and the parents. It is with the kindergarten school year that
feelings and attitudes about school are first developed. Through the joint
efforts with the child, parent, and school's staff, our intention is that
each stage of a child's growth be rich, full, and satisfying.

The kindergarten program is an integral part of the total elementary school
program and provides an opportunity for continuous growth and development of
young children. There is a planned curriculum that is designed specifically
for kindergarten students. Upon visiting the Primary Campus, you will see
children busily painting, manipulating blocks and beads, "cooking"
measuring, classifying materials, engaging in pre-writing and pre-reading
activities, and, in some cases, actually writing and reading. It is neither
the norm nor the exception for a child to enter kindergarten reading.
However, quality preschool programs provide great "beginnings" and the
kindergarten staff then works with a variety of methods and strategies to
reach all learners at their levels.

Parents are a vital part of the team to provide a program that will promote
optimum growth for the child. Their support and understanding are needed.
Parents are encouraged to work directly with the child's teacher to find out
ways to help and be involved in this all important experience.

Please note the following registration process used at Sarah Smith for
incoming kindergarten students:

- Please visit the "Enrollment Information" link on the Principal's webpage
for required documents necessary for registration.

- Until all required materials are provided to the school, the child's
registration file will be placed in an "incomplete"
category. As you acquire the missing items, please drop the by the school
and we will add them to the child's file.

- Once a child's registration requirements are met, he/she will be placed in
the "complete" category and will be ready to have his/her class assigned.

- Again, kindergarten is a very special time for children. If you have any
questions about enrollment or the registration process, please don't
hesitate to contact the primary campus (404-802-3850).
