What is homework like in first grade?

Homework will be sent home Monday through Thursday and will
review the various subject taught in class. Your child should
complete their homework independently. After the work is
complete please go over the work with your child and provide any
help/suggestions. Homework should be returned the next day in
your child's take-home folder. Although homework is not graded
a record will be kept of when homework was completed and returned
to school.

Monday- Math related homework
Tuesday- Phonics related homework
Wednesday- Math related homework
Thursday- LA/Writing/Theme Unit related homework

What should my child bring for snack?

Students will bring their own snack each day. Snack time is
limited to 10 minutes so the snack should be small, nutritious,
and easy to eat. No drinks please! Students will be able to get
water from the water fountain.

How do you celebrate birthdays?

Birthdays will be celebrated from 2:00-2:15, either on your
child's birthday or as close to the date as possible. Summer
birthdays will be celebrated during the last two weeks of
school. We will say "The Birthday Cheer," sing "Happy Birthday"
and have your special birthday snack. Due to time constraints I
ask that birthday treats are kept simple. Please try to
provide a snack the is peanut/nut free. No candles!

How can I volunteer in the classroom?

There are plenty of opportunities for your family to help out in
our classroom this year. During Celebration of Learning and Open
House there will be sign-up sheets for small group helpers,
parent readers, room parents, field trips, and many other PTA
events.

What is the best way to contact Mrs. Pridgen?

The best way to contact me is via e-mail or handwritten notes in
your child's Take-Home Folder. These folders are checked daily
for notes or paperwork being returned to school. Please be sure
to check your child's folder each night and return it to school
each day as important notes from teachers, administration, and
PTA will continually be sent home in these folders.

How can I change my child's afternoon dismissal plans?

If your child is going home a different way than normal I ask
that you send in a signed note stating with whom and how your
child is going home. Please send an additional note for the bus
driver if you child will be riding a different bus or riding
his/her original bus, but getting off at a different
stop.

If your dismissal plans change during the school day you must fax
a signed note detailing the new dismissal procedure as well as a
copy of your driver's license to the front office before 12:00
p.m.

How do I pay for lunch or milk?

You may either put money into your online account or you can send
in money to school on Mondays. You may put as much money into
the account as you would like or you may pay day-by-day.
Whenever your child makes a purchase from the cafeteria it will
automatically be deducted from your account whether the money was
put in online or collected and put into the account at
school. Please be sure to keep a positive balance in your
account so your child will be able to purchase lunch items as
needed.

How can I help my child prepare for the CRCT test?

You can help your child prepare for the CRCT throughout the year
by reviewing and discussing homework, reading and writing with
your child as much as possible, and providing positive
encouragement. (Sometimes just knowing that someone recognizes
how hard you are working makes all the difference.) :)
