Bonjour! I guess I have always enjoyed working with children, first bossing
around my 3 younger sisters, then conscripting neighborhood kids into my
garage plays, and later working most summers as a camp counselor-- including
a summer in a camp in France! After graduating from Princeton University with
a BA in History, I taught Social Studies in Ridgewood, New Jersey from 1977-
1979. I then came south to teach at the Westminster Schools in 1979. I taught
US History and Economics there until my husband and I started our family in
1985. I earned my MAT in History from Georgia State in 1985. In 1987, I
piloted after-school French programs at E. Rivers, Smith and Brandon. French
was officially offered during the school day at Smith in 1992. In 1991, our
eldest started at Sarah Smith, just missing having French- sad! By 1995, I
had four children at Smith and was, like many of you, doing lots of volunteer
work up here. In 1996, I started teaching my other favorite subject, French,
both here and at Jackson. In 1998, inspired by Morris Branden, I led our
first trip to France with a great educational travel company, ACIS. (Our
school has gone ever since, led by different members of the French team. This
year, I will lead the trip. We are going to Paris, Provence, Nice, Florence
and Rome, leaving on March 28, 2012. There is still room, so please contact
me, if you are interested in coming!!
This year, I teach 3 classes of Kindergarten 4 days a week and 5 classes of
2nd grade. I really enjoy incorporating music, exercise and dance in my
classes.
When I am not working or taking care of home business, I enjoy keeping up
with my four children; 2 are in college, one is doing volunteer work in Cape
Town, South Africa, and one works in Asheville! I love to bike, hike,
beinvolved in our church, listen to live music, and play tennis. I also enjoy
walking our Golden Retrier. She is 5 years old and very sweet!!I love to
travel, and hope to do more with my husband. This summer, I got to go to
Africa for the first time!! We went on a service trip to Tanzania, working in
a Masai village. Then we summitted Mt. Kilimanjaro!! NOT EASY but fun!
My official name is Madame Franchot and my "persona," the French name that I
chose, is Noelle, which is the feminine form of the French word for
Christmas. (My birthday is Christmas day.)
Merci beaucoup!! Marty Franchot (mfranchot@atlanta.k12.ga.us)
PARLEZ FRANCAIS!! and exhibit the IB characteristics!
