Dear Parents,
This week in Phonics we will be learning about the sneaky silent e. The
sneaky silent e is a fun way for the children to identify long vowels. This
concept can be hard for Kindergarteners as they are being introduced to the
concept, please do not worry. We will continue to emphasize this concept
throughout the remainder of the year. Please help your child to identify
words that have the sneaky silent e. Ask your child the job of the sneaky
silent e…they can teach you .
In Language Arts, we will review story elements and main idea. We will
edit our valentine letters, match silent e words to pictures, unscramble
sentences, review ABC order and discuss what reading comprehension means.
In Math, we will continue to make coin exchanges with our pennies,
nickels and dimes. We will also write comparison number stories, practice
counting by 2s, and begin to explore fractions. Please help your child to
find fractions around the house.
In Social Studies we will learn about many great African American
contributors in celebration of Black History Month. We will discuss what it
means to be a risk taker, to show loyalty, and ways to show patriotism.
Please practice the spelling words so your child is ready for their
spelling test on Friday. Ways to practice studying spelling words are
writing them on dry erase boards, putting them in alphabetical order, and
writing sentences using the spelling words. Other skills to practice: writing
sentences, adding, writing numbers to 50, counting by 2's, 5's, and 10's.
Please look in your child's folder each night and initial the behavior
chart.
Thanks,
Shea
