A Georgia native from the small town of Powder Springs, I always dreamed of
traveling the world. But how? Fortunately, I spent many years as a nanny for
a severely developmentally delayed child, his siblings and cousins while
working my way through college. My 8 year experience with this family
enlightened me to my gift for working with children; I completed my graduate
degree in early childhood education from Kennesaw State University. Teaching
would enable me to spend my life doing the things that would allow me to live
my dream of traveling all the while spending my days learning and teaching
children how to reach their dreams. It has been 12 years since I began
teaching and it has been a challenging and extremely fulfilling career.
I have taught kindergarten, third grade, fourth grade and now gifted fourth
in various socio-economic areas. It is hard to believe that this will be my
6th year at SRS!
I love to learn by doing and traveling. I spend my free time making jewelry,
working on home improvement projects, reading, and traveling to stay
inspired. In the past, I have traveled throughout Western Europe on my
own, with friends, and as a delegation leader for People 2 People.
Backpacking alone through Costa Rica, an EarthWatch Expedition in the Great
Barrier Reef, and a Yale Fellowship are also big adventures that influence my
love of learning through life experience.
My hobbies and travel influence students by modeling enthusiasm for my own
life. Students can see that learning can be fun and the world is out there
for them to interact with in their own way. I will help provide the tools to
develop creative and higher order thinking so that each child can make their
full potential. My goal is, “Teaching kids how to think, not what to
think.” ~Future Problem Solving.
