Annonces

I am looking forward to meeting parents at the first PTA Meeting on August
16 as well as Third Grade Orientation on August 25.
I've enjoyed corresponding with some of you by e-mail, answering your
questions and concerns. I can be reached at kks922@bellsouth.net

Merci beaucoup in advance to all who already signed up for French Food Days.
The sign up sheets will be posted in each of the classrooms the night of
Parent Orientation to fill those remaining slots. I will be contacting you
with dates and details as each one approaches. This is a wonderful way to
enhance your child's cultural experience.

Please encourage your child to PARTICIPATE fully in French class every day.
It is so important for their success. 50% of their grade in French comes
from participation.

THIRD GRADE

August/September

Third Grade is currently working on the introductory unit called "Alex et
Zoe". It has the children reviewing or learning basic phrases for simple
communication purposes and how to express lots of personal information about
themselves: age, family members, pets, likes and dislikes with food,
clothing, hair and eye color, and classroom objects.

October/November

We completed the story, "Pauvre Michel", a recount of a series of
unfortunate events in the day of a 10-year-old boy. I was able to use the
e-Book version on the Promethean Board giving the students opportunities to
enhance their reading skills. This also allowed for student interaction such
as underlining final, silent letters and highlighting cognates.

We are now into our next unit, "Les Heros", recognizing heros around us. We
will sing about heroic attributes and write articles about heroes and
heroines for a newspaper we will produce.

December/January

The fabulous newspapers, produced by the third grade French classes after
weeks of hard work, are on display outside our French classroom. We have
moved on to "Voici Mon Ecole" where we are visiting schools around the world
and discovering what students like about their schools, comparing what we
like about Sarah Smith. In the process, our students are not only working on
vocabulary acquisition but developing comprehension skills by identifying
cognates and pronunciation skills by concentrating on the {a} sound.
