What type of teacher are you?
I believe it is important for fourth grade students to begin to become
responsible for their learning and behavior. I will allow students a
certain amount of freedom as long as they are following instructions and not
violating class rules. I can become strict if needed. I will treat you
with the same amount of respect as you will treat me and the rest of your
classmates.
Are you a tough grader?
I will give you what you need to succeed in class (rubrics, outlines,
examples, etc.). I will also give numerous opportunities to redo poor
assignments. Not everyone is able to master a concept at the same time.
However, I do feel that giving you opportunities to revisit poor assignments
will help you master it before the end of the year, achieving success in 4th
Grade.
How much homework will I have?
Homework is extended practice for the concepts we have learned during the
day. We will have some projects that may take numerous days to complete.
It should take 40 minutes to complete your homework. If it takes more than
1 hour, please let me know and we can take the necessary steps to cut the
time spent. I do expect that students are reading every night when they
have time. I want them to get in the habit of reading for enjoyment. Before
students go to bed is a great time to get some reading in if possible!
What if I dont complete my homework?
If you do not complete your homework, I will expect a note from your parent
explaining the reason you were unable to do it. If there is no valid
reason, you will not receive your homework bonus (Checkbook Math). I will
take your work up to 5 days late. You will receive a 10% deduction on each
day.
When can I go to the restroom or get a drink of water?
As responsible members of our classroom, I trust that you will only use the
restroom and/or water fountain when it is necessary and appropriate. You
will move your stick and place it in the appropriate pouch and double check
with me before you leave. If you begin to take advantage of the situation,
I will assign you a bathroom/water buddy and will only allow you to go
during certain times.
Can I celebrate my birthday with the class?
That would be wonderful! I will need at least 1 day notice. Also, we can
celebrate the last 20 minutes of the day. Please remember to distribute any
birthday invites before class starts.
Can I bring toys to school?
Please do not bring anything that will be unsafe or a distraction to you or
your classmates. I will have show-and-tell days when I will let you bring
in something special.
When do I bring home my graded work and information sheets?
Every Monday, you will take your graded work home from the previous week.
You will also bring home your checkbook to be signed by your guardian. When
information sheets are handed out, it is your responsibility to bring them
home that same day.
What if Im absent?
If you know you are going to be absent, please let me know so that I can try
to give you your work early. If you have an unplanned absence, it will be
your responsibility to catch up on missed work. You will have a homework
buddy that will let you know what you missed.
What if I need to get in contact with you?
You may contact me by email me at callard@atlanta.k12.ga.us. If that doesnt
work, you may reach me on my cell at (706) 540-9055.
