I am very excited for the 2011-2012 school year! I have heard I will
have one of the best classes at Sarah Smith this year and am really excited
to meet all of you!
This will be my sixth year teaching! I've taught three years here at
Smith and two years at Bramlett Elementary in Barrow County.
An important fact about me is that I grew up in Canada. I became an
American citizen this year, which was very exciting! I grew up in the city of
Red Deer, Alberta. Red Deer is located 2 hours away from Calgary (host of
the 1988 Winter Olympic Games). My family still lives there and I am able to
visit them at least once a year.
I came to the United States in 2002 to receive my Bachelors Degree
in Education. I received a full athletic scholarship from the University of
Oklahoma Track and Field Team (go Sooners!). I graduated from the
University of Oklahoma in 2006 and moved to Georgia to begin teaching, while
my husband (Chris) completed his law degree at the University of Georgia (go
Bulldogs!). We also have two wonderful dogs named Tucker and Betty.
I can't wait for us to share our summer stories and get to know one
another better. It's going to be a great year!
My mission is to create a positive learning environment. I want you to
feel safe to explore and expand upon new concepts. In doing so, I know that
this will create a rich learning environment that will make it easier for
you to explore at your own pace.
My classroom is a balance with between student and teacher centered. We
will be completing some projects as a group. Other projects I will give you
an outline to help you complete it in timely manner. There will also be
quizzes and tests throughout. I will give you the study guides to help you
prepare. My goal is for you to learn as much as possible this year and keep
it fun and exciting. I am truly thirilled to be teaching you this year and
can't wait for all the fun to start!
