What is Everyday Math?

Everyday Math is a math program that was created in Chicago. EDM
helps make math and numbers easier for children to understand by
offering them opportunites to use numbers in every day
situations. For example, EDM uses real money whenever money
concepts are introduced. Children are supplied with rulers,
thermometers, tape measures and manipulatives to help them
solve real life situations whenever possible.

Can I eat lunch with my kindergartner?

Of course you may join your child for lunch. Please wait until
Friday, October 7th before joining your child. I believe it is
so important for the children to connect with one another before
we have visitors at lunch.
Please do not bring fast food for your child to eat at lunch as
it is unfair to the other children. Our lunch is served
downstairs in the cafeteria from .

My child is sick, what should I do?

Please contact Ms. Celeste in the office at (404) 802-3850 or
Mrs. Campbell via e-mail as soon as possible.
Please provide Mrs. Campbell with a note explaining your child's
absence upon their return to school if you have not contacted her
previously. All work will be saved and sent

complete and return any missed work.

Do you have Show-n-Tell and when is Show-n-Tell?

Absolutely!! Show-N-Tell was always one of my favorite things in
school.
Any chance to talk and share and I was on board. A Show-N-Tell
schedule was passed out at Orientation. Please refer to the
schedule. You will also find an updated schedule on the monthly
calendar. You will also receive a SNT reminder e-mail the day before your child's selected SNT Day.

What is the best way to communicate with Mrs. Campbell and the school daily?

Your child will bring home a folder daily. On one side of the
folder you will find all important papers as well as any written
work for the day.
On the other side you will find a Daily Accomplishment Sheet.
This sheet is designed to help you stay in touch with your
child's behavior on a daily basis. Please make sure you review
it each night, sign and return in their blue folder. Also, please
feel free to place any notes in their folder. I check
my APS e-mail at least once a day, however my e-mail is not
always reliable. Please know that if I have not repsonded to you
within 24 hours please send a hard copy to school. Thank you for
your understanding regarding this matter.

How can I help my child have a successful year in kindergarten?

The number one thing you can do to help support your child's
learning is to READ, READ, READ to them every night!!! Please
also reinforce the letters of the alphabet, the sounds those
letters make as well as numbers 0-30.
Beginning in September, your child will receive a Homework
Notebook with a monthly calendar posted inside.
This homework is NOT required, however it will help support what
is going on in the classroom. It is a great way for you to stay
connceted to your child's learning and help reinforce what they
are learning on a daily basis. If you choose to participate in
the homework, the Homework Notebook is due each Friday.
You can also support their learning by collecting the materials
requested at the beginning of each IB Unit. Support at home with these units
helps ensures your child will get them most out of each IB Unit.
Participation in home/school projects also help your child gain
the most out of each learning experience.

Please provide snack for children.

How can I celebrate my child's birthday at school?

I think birthdays are AWESOME and celebrating them is a must. I
prefer to celebrate birthdays at the end of the school day but
due to double specials twice a week we will follow this
celebration schedule: M/T/Th 2:00 birthday celebrations and W/F
12:00 birthday celebrations. You are welcome to bring a
treat and drink, individual juice boxes work best, for each child
in our room. Please make sure the treat is precut or in
individual pieces as time is always a factor. Whenever possible
I enjoy celebrating birthdays on the actual day or as close to it
as possible. As far a summer birthdays we celebrate the 1/2
birthday instead. Please let me know if you have any questions
concerning birthdays.

Thank you to those of you who signed up at Orientation. Please
refer to the monthly calendar to see who our Parent Readers are
each week. Please let me or Lisa Hoover know if you are unable
to keep your scheduled reading date so that we can find a
replacement. If you were unable to sign up at Orientation and
would still like to read, please feel free to contact me or Lisa
Hoover to see where there is a need. Thank you so much for your
support!
