Recent Happenings:
The Wax Museum went very well (or so I heard. I had a math training and
therefore was not on campus Friday). The students performed their speeches
for me today and I gave them their grade according to the rubric for the
activity. I also passed out several of the weekly CRCT Treasure assessments.
I explained to the students that I do not use the assessments for grading
purposes. I do enter the items scored correctly so that I can continue to
plan according to the class trend. The reports generated from the data are
very telling.
I will also be out of the building Dec. 15, for a science training.
Turkey Dressing: The turkeys and stories are due tomorrow. A few students
have already turned their turkeys in and they are adorable. This is one of
the most entertaining classes I have ever taught.
The Big Move:
We are gearing up for our move to the new campus. I was able to take a tour
of the building last week. I was very impressed. Our classroom is FABULOUS!!
I will miss the wooded setting we enjoy now but the new room does have a
great view of the trees behind the building. My husband will be able to help
me on the 18th so please do not feel obligated to assist with the move. I
know how busy the holiday season is, and I am sure you have more pressing
issues to tend to. Dr. Baker will soon be sending out information explaining
when parents and students can visit the new campus prior to our return in January.
Book Exchange:
I have not heard anything back from anyone concerning the book exchange. I
would like to have the exchange on the day of our Holiday Party. If you are
not planning to participate, please send me a note so that I can plan
accordingly. As an IB school, it is important that we take responsibility for
our planet (and even if we were not an IB school). Therefore, I try to limit
printing correspondence that can be handle via this medium. If you would like
to receive a hard copy of this section , please send me a note and I will
print a copy of these announcements in the future.
Transportation changes:
I hate to continue to beat this tired horse but, I still have parents sending
me e-mail messages requesting transportation changes or not sending any
notification. All transportation changes MUST go through the office. Please
send in a written note or call the office to arrange any changes. Thanks for
your support!
Supplies:
I have been given several sanitizing wipes so we are good in that category.
We do need notebook paper and pencils. Highlighters would be wonderful too.
PLEASE LOOK UNDER THE HOMEWORK TAB TO FIND INFORMATION RELATING TO HOMEWORK!!

Just a few updates:
1. The explorer wax museum activity will be held on November 20th. Please
talk with your child about the activity. Each student has an explorer they
are responsible for learning about. Students should also prepare a costume
that represents the explorer. The costumes need to be completed at home.
2. I have given the students a writing assignment that is due the Tuesday of
Thanksgiving week, 11/24/09. This assignment is to be completed at home.
There is a rubric for the activity and I have given it to the children.
3. Not too much longer until the big move!!! We are so excited! I need
volunteers to assist with moving desks, and chairs from our trailer into the
gym on the last Friday that we have class in December (12/18). If you have a
moving dolly that we could use, our backs will not have to suffer as much.
If you can volunteer an hour or two of your time on that afternoon please let
Angie Whipple know.
4. PLEASE SEND A TRANSPORTATION NOTE IF YOUR CHILD’S AFTERNOON DISMISSAL
ROUTINE CHANGES. I have MANY students wanting to change whose home they are
going to after school or how they get to where they are going. I will not
allow students to change their usual dismissal routine unless they have
written documentation to support the change.

Two field trips next week: 10/20, Cobb Youth Museum, 9:30-11:30 and
10/22, Alliance Theatre, 9:00-12:00
Please send sack lunches each day.
Picture day is Wednesday so dress pretty!
Please check your child's book bag daily for communication letters. I have
sent home a few conference letters but have only gotten 1 confirmation back.
Since my email is not working, I have no way of knowing if parents are
planning to come for the conference if I do not get the confirmation portion
of the letter back. The remaining letters will go home Wednesday, 10/14/09.

We had 15/20 students return the dove activity. I am extending the deadline;
my deadline is tomorrow.
Teacher Ease is a little more complicated than I thought. I will not have it
available for parents until the weekend.
No Assigned Homework tonight. The children should read for at least 30
minutes nightly.

Progress Reports
Progress Reports went home today with students who have a C or lower in any
subject area. If your child received a Progress Report, please sign and
return Monday. If your child was not given a Progress Report, they currently
have a B or higher in all subject areas.
Field Trip
The field trip to the Aquarium is happening this coming Friday, September 18,
2009. I realize some parents did not turn in permission slips. I have
requested copies of the form and I will send it home Monday with the students.
Teacher Ease
I have decided to register with the Teacherease.com website. I should have
parental access information by Monday. Please check back Monday afternoon
for that information.
