The Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) provide clear expectations for
assessment, instruction, and student work. They define the level of work that
demonstrates achievement of the standards, so teachers, students, and parents
know "how good is good enough."
The performance standards isolate and identify the skills students need to
problem-solve, reason, communicate, and make connections with other
information. Assessments based on the performance standards help teachers
find out which students understand the information taught and which students
need further instruction.
