I have a Master of Education degree from Strayer University, the Atlanta
campus. I obtained my undergraduate degree from Chaminade University,
located in Honolulu, HI. Before entering into the teaching profession I was
in the Armed Forces, both Marines and Navy, for a total of 13 years. I came
to Georgia in 2002 and love living and teaching here. I have been married to
my husband for 11 years and we have 3 wonderful children. My oldest daughter
is in 6th grade and loving her independence (she attended Smith with me for 6
years). My son is in 3rd grade her at Smith. I have another daughter, 4 years
old, who basically controls our household. I have taught at Sarah Smith for
the past 8 years and cannot imagine being anywhere else. Both the parents and
the staff make working here a fantastic and rewarding experience.
I believe that it is the responsibility of all teachers in elementary school
to develop in all children the core academic and social skills that will lay
the foundation for building more advanced knowledge during their entire
school experience. I firmly believe that knowledge and learning is like a
house that can either be "rented" or "owned". I want all students to own
knowledge. This can only be accomplished when they develop deep
understandings of the skills and concepts being taugh.
