Here is a curriculum update:
Math: We wrapped up Unit #4 last Friday and will be starting Unit #5 on
Monday, November 2nd. In this unit, we will be developing the concepts of
point and line segment, identifying, naming and classifying polygons,
observing similarities and differences among 3-dimensional shapes, and
exploring symmetry. Please continue to practice addition flashcards at home
nightly (5 to 10 minutes). If your child has mastered basic addition facts,
please begin to practice subtraction flashcards. A purple letter will be sent
home on Monday, November 2nd. This letter provides information about Unit #5;
this includes math vocabulary as well as the answers to the Homelinks.
Social Studies/Science: Junior Achievement has kicked off and the students
really enjoyed the first lesson on Community Helpers. Last Friday, we wrapped
up our unit on government. As a culminating activity, the students created a
government leader triorama. Next up in social studies, we will be learning
about Native Americans. More specifically, the Creeks and Cherokees and how
their contributions to Georgia's history.
Language Arts: We finished up with possessive nouns last week and this week
we will begin learning about action verbs and then moving into linking verbs.
Reading: In reading, we are reading selections from the Treasures
anthology, leveled readers and Junior Great Books. Last week, we studied
making inferences. This week's skill will be cause and effect.
Other news:
If you have not already done so, please return the clinic information card to
school.
There is no school for students on Tuesday, November 3rd.
Read-a-thon begins on Wednesday, November 4th.
Progress reports will be coming home the week of November 9th.
