Homework

April 2012
We're almost third graders! We are getting ready for third grade by writing
our homework onto our homework sheet. This week the children started writing
their math homework onto their homework sheet. When we come back from Spring
Break, the children will write in their homework for Reading and Math. The
following week, the children will be responsible for writing in all of their
homework for every subject. I will initial their homework sheet everyday to
make sure that each student is writing their homework. Please do not forget to
initial the homework sheet every night as well.

February 5, 2012
Please have your child spend 10 minutes each night on IXL. The weekly
exercises are listed on the top of the homework sheet. Additionally, have
your child read each night 20 minutes. The Six Flags Reading Log is due at
the end of this month.

Sept. 12-16
Look for homework assignments in the cover of the binder. Notice the IXL
skills for this week at the top of the sheet in orange font.

General Information

Second graders are required to read daily for 20 minutes, post it on a
reading log, and return it the last school day of the month. We will get our
first reading log in August. This is in addition to other homework.

Written assignments should be completed independently within 30 minutes and
checked by an adult. (DURING THE FIRST MONTH OF SCHOOL, MOST STUDENTS WILL
NEED SOME ASSISTANCE GETTING USE TO THE ROUTINE AND HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS)
Homework is not graded; however, it is grouped checked or checked by myself
each morning. It provides extra practice for learning and insight for you as
to how well your child is able to apply the standards we have covered.
Written assignments will be given weekly. Look for a homework assignment
sheet in the cover sleeve of the white binder on Mondays. This will usually
include one math worksheet or practice online at a given site that matches
the standards we are covering in class. Occasionally, there will be a
special project with directions that may need parent help. On these
assignments, students are usually given two weekends to complete the project.
These projects should reflect the work of the student but parent help in
gathering materials and helping to organize the project will be helpful.
Spelling homework will often be done online. THERE ARE NO ROUTINE HOMEWORK
ASSIGNMENTS FOR WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS.

After the first two weeks of school, you may find that your child is
struggling to complete the assignments within 30 minutes. Please contact me
so that we can work together to make homework a positive experience within
30 minutes. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT AS PART OF A HEALTHY ROUTINE, CHILDREN
HAVE TIME TO PLAY AND HAVE FAMILY TIME. HOMEWORK SHOULD NOT INTERFER WITH
THIS IMPORTANT PART OF EACH DAY.
