6th,7th and 8th Grade Band-EVERYBODY needs
-Three ring, hard sided binder with pockets and clear cover sleeve
for student name, etc. (just for band materials)
-Pencil pouch (stocked with pencils and a highlighter).
7th/8th Graders also need:
Books:
-Essential Elements 2000 Book 2 (red)
(7th Graders should bring Book 1 for now)
-Foundations for Superior Performance (new for 7th Grade)
Recommended Upgrade Mouthpieces: These are upgrades from “standard
equipment.” Well worth the investment in improved tone quality and
student motivation.
Clarinet: B45, 5RV lyre, HS*, Jewel
Saxophone: Rousseau Classic #4, Selmer C*
Trumpet: Stork 3C
Horn: Yamaha 30B
Trombone/Euphonium: Bach 5G
Tuba: Conn Helleberg (Not Helleberg 7C)
Metronome: This is not required, but highly recommended. It will
help students practice with greater rhythmic accuracy.
Maintenance / Cleaning Supplies:
Brass – valve oil (trumpet, horn, euphonium, and tuba), tuning slide
grease, cleaning “snake” (for home use), and mouthpiece brush.
Trombonists need Slide-O-Mix or Yamaha slide oil (yes, it does
matter).
Flutes – cotton handkerchief for cleaning, and tuning rod.
Clarinets – 3 size 3 or 3 ½ good reeds daily! (ex. Vandoren,
LaVoz, Mitchell Lurie), cloth swab (not shammy), reed guard, Bonade
or Rovner ligature, and cork grease.
Saxes – 3 size 2 ½ good reeds daily! (ex. Vandoren, LaVoz,
Mitchell Lurie), cloth swab, reed guard, sturdy neck strap, ligature,
mouthpiece, and cork grease.
Oboe/Bassoon – 2 good, cane (not synthetic) reeds daily! (ex.
Jones)
Percussion - Stick bag with 2B/SD1 sticks, one pair “real”
bell mallets, one pair medium yarn marimba mallets (ex. Musser, Mike
Balter, Yamaha), one pair general timpani mallets (ex. Vic Firth,
Mike Balter), your very own chromatic pitch pipe.
