IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE SCHOOL COUNSELOR:

CRCT Test Taking Tips

	Elementary students need 10 to 12 hours of sleep to do well at
school. This is true all year long, but during standardized testing getting
adequate sleep is vital. Children who are sleepy have difficulty paying
attention and following directions. So be sure your child is in bed by 8 or 9
each night in order to get enough sleep.
	Eating a sensible breakfast is also important on testing days. Too
much sugar and a student will be sleepy and restless before lunch. Skipping
breakfast leaves students with out the energy needed to perform well on the
test. A breakfast with some protein, cereal, and fruit is a good choice.
	It is also very important students arrive at school on time. They
need to be able to unpack their book bag, sharpen pencils and generally
settle down before the test begins. If a student arrives after the test
begins they will have to stay in the media center and make up that section of
the test.
	Parents should also pay attention to how the morning goes on test
day. Try to have a calm routine morning. Clothes and book bags can be set
out and organized to minimize morning hassles. Have your child’s favorite
healthy breakfast food available. Plan a fun activity for the afternoon if
possible.
	Vaughan students have learned much this year and are very capable of
doing outstanding on the CRCT. Talk with your student about the importance
of this test and your expectation that they do their very best. Work with
them to be sure they get the sleep they need, eat right and stay calm and
focused. This is what a parent can and should do to ensure their students
perform on the tests to the best of their ability.
