Previous Months

December

The year is flying by. This month we will be talking about cultural
differences and how our differences make us special. We will talk about the
way other countries celebrate Christmas as well as talk about Hanukkah,
Kwanzaa, and other religious ways to celebrate the winter holidays. We will
be making snowflakes to show how no two snowflakes are alike, just like no
two people are alike. We will also be watching a fun movie. So bye for now,
until next month...when we do good touch/bad touch.

November

This month when everyone is talking about Thanksgiving and things to be
grateful for I talk about Veterns Day and and things to be grateful for. We
will be learning about the colors of the flag, the symbols of America, what
the Pledge of Allegiance means and doing some great activities. We will also
be reading a lot of books and I have one video that talks about deployment
for the military kids. The classroom is decorated all red, white and blue.
This is a great time to let the kids know what the United States is a

October

This is the month we learn about the dangers of tobacco, alcohol, and other
drugs. We will be doing a lot of talking about these dangerous things as
well as working on puzzles, reading books and watching a video. All lessons
are age appropriate, with kindergarten and first grade focused mainly on
smoking, second and third on smoking and alcohol, fourth on smoking, alcohol
and marijuana and 5th on all the above plus other illegal drugs. Please
remember to talk with your kids about these things...it is very important to
keep the lines of communication open.

September

Love this month...Stranger Danger. We will be reading books on what to do if
we encounter a "bad" stranger, watching a video that teaches kids how to
protect themselves, and a lot of role playing. All kids need a password or
code word that only the family knows. If someone tries to get them to go
with them they can ask them what the password is...if they don't know, you
don't go". Everything on this topic is aimed to keep our kids safe from
danger and teach them there are good and bad strangers, but because we can't
tell the difference we don't talk with any stranger.

August

Here we go again - off to another great year. I was out due to illness the
first week of school. I sure did miss my kids. August is always about
bullying. We will learn the laws of Georgia and policies of the school and
school district. We will talk a lot, watch a new movie titled "I am not a
target", play bully bingo and hopefully the kids will understand that
bullying is not acceptable
