Thank you so much for helping the children return folders and
books on the assigned days. It is really helpful to have them put
these items back into their book bags nightly, so that they will be
sure to have them when needed. Students that do not bring their
homework, folders and books to school will be moved to yellow for not
being prepared for class. We are doing this in an effort to help
build responsibility. Also, a few children have indicated that they
are not reading their little books at home. This is not okay, as
this is part of their assigned homework for the week. Furthermore,
this is somewhat cheating your child out of an opportunity to help
improve his/her reading skills. Please help me to ensure that your
child is as successful at Britt David as possible, by having him read
the little book at least 3 times during the week.
This month in math we will be working on place value, addition
and subtraction. We will begin using the first grade Saxon Math in a
couple of weeks. Our math homework sheets will then be the back side
of the math class work for the day. Be sure to have your child read
this homework sheet on his/her own. We will be discussing the
following topics this month: dental health, presidents, US symbols,
black history, and Valentine's Day.
We will have a Valentine's Day party on Tuesday the 14th, at
11:15. You will find attached to this newsletter a list of the
students in our class. Your child can use this to do Valentine's Day
cards, which they may bring to school as soon as they are completed.
Please be sure to use the red form that was sent home earlier
this month to order carnations. The children all enjoy sending a
flower to their special friends and to loved ones. PLEASE BE SURE TO
ORDER A FLOWER FOR YOUR CHILD. MOST PEOPLE DO THIS AND I DON'T WANT
ANYONE TO BE LEFT OUT.
I send a newsletter home monthly; however, I frequently send
important emails about things going on in the classroom and ways for
you to help your child. If you are having a problem with your email,
let me know and I will print hard copies for you. Please be sure to
check the web site - WWW. BrittDavid.com and then click the link to
classes and look for my name. This site will give you up-to-date
info. for the class and the school. Look for the mystery math
problem. Remember if your child brings in the mystery math problem
he/she will get a treat.
Please try to attend the Chick-fil-a and Stevi B's spirit nights
and let the cashier know that you are from our class. Any child in
attendance does not have to do homework for that night. Be sure to
write "Stevi B's or Chick-fil-a" across the homework paper.
Important days to remember for this month:
         Feb. 9 (Thur.) Progress reports
         Feb. 9 (Thur.) Chick-fil-a night
         Feb. 14 (Tues.) Valentine's Day party (11:15)

                                      Have a wonderful month!
                                              Carol Jones
