What is the AR requirement in kindergarten?

Your child will have a new AR book each week. It is to be read
for homework each night, and your child will take a computerized
test on the assigned book every week with the assistance of an
older reading buddy. All students are expected to maintain an
overall testing average of 85% or above.

What is 'millionaire?'

Studies have shown that when a child reads a million words on
his/her independent reading level, that his/her reading level and
vocabulary increases by one complete grade level. The number of
books to achieve this depends on the reading level. Since easier
books are shorter with fewer words and more pictures, it takes
more books to reach the approximate million word goal. Upper
grade books have more words and fewer pictures, so it doesn't
take as many books. For kindergarten, children are required to
read 250 books to reach 'Millionaire' status. Students are to
record every book they read, each time they read it, on the book
log provided by the teacher. When the log is complete, students
may turn it in to receive credit. When it is documented that a
student has read 250 books, he/she will be added to our 'Wall of
Frames' outside the cafeteria which highlights our successful
readers.
