Above and Beyond Presentations:
All students in 2nd, 3rd, 4th,and 5th grades need to complete one Above and
Beyond for each nine weeks.
To demonstrate that students are "Taking Initiative to go Beyond
Requirements", which is assessed on the Target report card, each student will
share an informational presentation with the class. The following
requirements will guide students in completing an Above and Beyond:
Above and Beyonds may be a deeper, more detailed inquiry about a subject
presented in class or related to our unit of study. During the school year I
will tell students if they are to complete an Above and Beyond on the unit/curriculum
we are focused on, OR if they may do an Above and Beyond on any topic that
interest them..
Student research should be from a reliable source. The source of your information
needs to be documented and shared. (books, magazines, newspapers or
websites). Wikipedia is NOT a good website to use for research, because some
of information is inaccurate and unverified.
Just printing out a web page or photocopying a book page is not acceptable
for your presentation. Create a visual. Please do not use Power Point for
your visual or delivery.
The presentation length needs to be three to five minutes. If more time to share
the presentation, students need to let me know at the beginning of class.
Students need to practice/rehearse what they are going to say and make notecards
to assist in your delivery.
Students, think about your audience. Will they be interested in what you share and are
you presenting with enthusiasm? Have fun learning more and sharing knowledge
with your peers!
