Welcome to 2nd Grade

It is the beginning of a new year and we already have a lot of exciting things planned in 2nd grade for the remainder of the year. We will be going on our field trip to Tellus Museum on Wednesday, January 11 and Thursday, January 12. We will be going to their Planetarium to learn more about the Stars to begin our science unit. I have not been but I have heard a lot of good things about it.

This nine weeks we will be focussing on fractions, measuremunt, money, and the calendar in math. Our focus in Reading and Writers Workshop will be on nonfiction. Not only will be reading a lot of nonfiction books, we will be writing on topcis that we are experts in. In science we will be learning about the stars and the constellations that they form. and later we will learning about Dr. Martin Luther King and Jackie Robinson. We will continue learning new words and patterns in Word Work and sharing in our Morning Meetings. In music we will be working on our Spring Performance "Nuts" to be held in late March.

Please continue to have your child practice their basic addition and subtraction facts It will help them so much if they have these basic skills in the intermediate grades! Keep reading!

Thanks so much for all of your help and support!
