Know the elements of music (Timbre, Rhythm, Melody, Harmony) and how
they were applied to
music from 1900 to today.
Be able to listen to recorded examples and describe them in terms of
the elements from the
“Elements of Music “ Handout.
Be familiar with Impressionism in music.
Be familiar with Claude Debussy as a composer.
Know something about symbolism and symbolist poets.
Know something about Impressionism in art and impressionist painters.
Be able to write and recognize Major and minor scales in both treble
and bass clef.
Be able to write and identify key signatures.
Be able to identify notes (by letter name) on the treble and bass
clefs.
Be able to clap indicated rhythms.

Test Review – Semester One
1) Know the note names on the staff, both treble and bass clefs.
2) Know how to write scales in all Major keys.
3) Be able to identify all Major scales.
4) Know how to write all Major key signatures.
5) Be able to identify all Major key signatures.
6) Understand and be able to use the “Elements of Music” for
analysis.
7) Know how the various Elements of Music were treated in the
Classical Period.
8) Know something about Franz Joseph Haydn
9) Know something about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
10) Be able to place musical instruments into both the Western
Traditional and the Sachs-Hornbostel Systems.
