Dr. Curtis has been teaching at the Kennedy School since August, 2003.
Prior to that time, he was the Choral Music Director for the Bisbee Unified
School District in Bisbee, Arizona, USA and the Artistic Director of the
Bisbee Community Chorus. Curtis received his bachelor of science degree in
music education from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix and both his master
of arts in vocal performance/pedagogy and his doctor of musical arts in
choral conducting at Arizona State University in Tempe. He studied voice
with Jerry Doan and conducting with David Stocker. Dr. Curtis most enjoys
imparting his love for the art that is music and his joy in singing to his
students and is thrilled to see them grow, learn and achieve musically and
intellectually.
Music should be fun and enjoyable. The purpose of music in our society is
to bring joy and pleasure. That does not mean music is easy. Music (good
quality music) is hard work. The harder we work and the better we become,
the more fun we have as musicians. Each day a
student/singer/performer/teacher/etcetera should strive to be better than
he/she was the day before.
