Book Report FormatBOOK REPORT FORMAT FOR 6th-12th GRADE Section One: Include the title, author, type of book (fiction, non-fiction biography), number of pages, and setting in paragraph form. (Always underline the title of a book or use italics if typing.) Example: The book I read is James and the Giant Peach. It was written by Roald Dahl. It has 209 pages. It is a fiction book. The setting is Section Two: Review of the book. Write 15-20 sentences reviewing the book. Tell what you liked in the book and what you did not like and tell if you recommend the book to others or not. Be specific! Example: I liked the book James and the Giant Peach because it was a fun book to read. It had fantasy and adventure. In the end, James gets away from his terrible aunts and lives happily ever after. He gets to travel, and he makes new friends. I did not like how the aunts treated James. They were very cruel. I also didn't like the fact that the aunts get smashed by the peach even though they seemed to deserve it. I would recommend this book to others because it was exciting to read. The author makes it so you want to read more. The book had amazing things in it like talking bugs. I even learned some facts about insects that I didn’t know before. Section Three: Write 7-10 sentences telling about the main character/s. Identify who is the protagonist and the antagonist. Are they Christians? If so, how do you know? If not, how do you know? What character traits did they have? Example: James, the protagonist, was a friendly boy who was very nice to others and considered others before himself. I don't know if he was a Christian or not because the book doesn't say. He had a lot of Christ-like behaviors though. Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker, the antagonists, were very mean, ugly, hateful women who were definitely not Christians because of their greedy behavior. They tortured James and starved him. Section Four: Write 7-10 sentences telling what positive or negative things you learned from this book. Were there any morals or biblical principles, good or bad from the story? Example: In the book James and the Giant Peach, I learned not to give up because James didn’t give up. I also learned the biblical principle of not seeking revenge because James did not seek revenge even though his two aunts were very mean to him. Section Five: Give a quote from the book that was meaningful to you. Tell what page it is on. Explain why you liked it and what it may mean if it is not apparent. Example: The Centipede sings, “I'm crazy about mosquitoes on a piece of buttered toast. And pickled spines of porcupines and a great big roast! And dragon's flesh, quite old, not fresh, it costs a buck at most!” This is on page 65. I thought the Centipede’s songs were very funny. The songs were some of the highlights of the book! The Centipede likes to make up funny songs because he is a rascal. Section Six: At the end of your report put, “I have read this entire book and have written this report in my own words” and sign your name. This is your honor statement! You put it in quotes because this is what YOU are stating. You also need to sign it because your signature is your word. Rules to remember: Never plagiarize! Do your own work. Always use your best cursive handwriting and use a pencil (If you are not typing). You may type your report, but you must type your report yourself.
