Homework is an important part of your student's education. It provides
additional practice, as well as enrichment of skills that have been covered
in class. Your child will receive a homework packet each week. Each day's
assignments are listed on the cover sheet. The entire packet is due on the
last day of the week. (usually on Friday)
Your child will be also be responsible for copying his/her daily assignment
from the board each day in their Student Planner. When they have completed the
assignment for the day, please check it over for completeness and
correctness. Then sign the Student Planner in the box for the day. It may seem
silly that you check for correctness, but I have found that "Practice Makes
Permanent" only "Perfect Practice Makes Perfect". If your child is having a
difficulty with an educational concept and they practice it wrong for 20
problems, they have just put it into their brain, incorrectly 20 times. Then
it takes a lot more practice to undo what they have learned.
Please try to make sure that your child has a quiet place to complete
homework with a good supply of crayons and pencils. All homework should be
completed in pencil unless otherwise stated.
They will also have a memory verse each week. Usually, that is handed out on
Friday so they may begin working on it over the weekend. On most Fridays your
child will also take a pretest on the next week's spelling words. Monday's
homework in spelling is always to put the words in ABC order in the student
planner. They may work on that over the weekend if they like.
Another component of homework will be fluency reading and doing 20 minutes of
A.R. reading each night. The reading will be recorded on their reading log.
The reading log will be turned in each Friday along with the homework packet.
