A Little Bit About Me:

I was born in Southern California and moved to Hawaii 9 years ago with my
husband, Eric. I have a daughter named Kaile, who is 4 years old. We
absolutely love Hawaii and NEVER want to leave :o). In my free time I enjoy
cooking for my family and friends, making arts and crafts projects with my
daughter, outrigger canoe paddling, and reading (design magazines,
professional books, novels). Something kind of funny about me, is that I love
to change my room environment around. Often, my husband will come home from a
trip to find entire rooms of furniture rearranged (I've gotten pretty good at
moving heavy things by myself:o)). I like to change things up in my classroom,
too.

Personal Teaching Philosophy

My goal is to promote each of my students’ intellectual, spiritual, and
emotional growth. I am interested in all aspects of my students’ learning and
am committed to ensuring their success. I will work toward this goal by
keeping the lines of communication open, and actively involving the families
of my students.
Students must be given a strong foundation in reading, language arts and
math. Knowledge is power and to acquire that knowledge students must be able
to read and express what they know with solid writing conventions and good
communication skills.
I believe in providing every student with a positive and safe place to learn
and grow. Children must be rigorously challenged to reach their full
potential, and must feel secure enough to take chances in the classroom. My
goal is create a community of learners who are actively engaged in taking
risks and thinking critically. Students in my class learn through the use of
inquiry-based instruction. I strive to facilitate increased conceptual
understanding and higher-level thinking among my students, where active,
hands-on learning occurs.
Twenty-first century students must have the skills to effectively use
technology to communicate, create, and access information. My goal is to
ensure technology is an integral part of my classroom, by facilitating
relevant, project-based instruction.
Children learn best by doing. I will strive to provide my students
with hands-on learning opportunities whenever possible. My students will be
challenged to apply the things they learn in the classroom to their everyday
lives. The skills focused on in my classroom will lend to their success as
life-long learners.
