Lunch & Milk Money:
The school district has contracted Arbor Management Inc. again to provide the students with hot lunches. Lunches are $2.50 and will start Monday, August 22nd, until then, please pack your child a cold lunch. We place all cold lunches in a basket that is wheeled down to the lunchroom. So, please label your child's full name on the outside of their lunchbox for easy identification. You will be able to purchase lunch tickets for ten or twenty lunches. You will also purchase a hot lunch daily. When sending in money for hot lunches, please place the money in an envelope or small plastic bag labeled with your child's name on it along with the date and "hot lunch". Milk may be bought for $.50 cents daily.
Please follow the link for all the information you need about the new lunch program...
Your child will be allowed to eat a snack every day in the afternoon. Please make sure that your child comes with a small, healthy snack even if he/she is receiving a hot lunch for that day.
The first Friday of every other month is Spirit Day. Students are urged to wear their Big Hollow spirit wear, or blue and white. Every other month your child may purchase popcorn for 25 cents, which will be collected that morning.
We celebrate birthdays for each student as well as have a celebration for those summer birthdays. The summer birthdays will be celebrated near the end of the year. In conjunction with the school wellness initiative, our class will not be celebrating with food. Instead, your child is welcome to bring in a non-food treat such as small goodie bags, pencils, erasers, stickers, etc. Thank you for understanding that this policy has been put into effect to increase good eating habits and to prevent food allergy issues.
Library books are due every Thursday. If your child does not bring back their book, then he/she will not be able to check out any new books until the old books have been returned. Also, please be aware that if a library book is damaged or lost, compensation will be required.
Scholastic book orders will be given out monthly. First grade is the grade that your child begins to read, and by ordering books you will help encourage this process. I've found these books to be much cheaper than if you were to buy them at a bookstore. Please be aware that when you order books, not only is it helping your child to read, but we earn books for our classroom library too!
Please send your child with Velcro shoes if he/she is unable to tie their own shoes. As we only have a few minutes to change our shoes before and after P.E. This does not leave enough time to tie the shoes of several students. Thank you for your help in this matter.
If your child is pulled out of school for a vacation, your child will receive missed work when he/she returns to school (per student handbook).
