Third Grade Curriculum

Reading/Language Arts/Spelling

Scott Foresman Reading Street © 2008 is a reading instruction program for Grades K–6. Reading Street is designed to help teachers build readers through motivating and engaging literature, scientifically research-based instruction, and a wealth of reliable teaching tools.

Within this program is also the 6+1 Writing Traits program. The 6+1 Traits include ideas, voice, organization, word choice, sentence fluency, conventions, and presentation. The traits use a universal language to help children to know what is working well, and what needs to be improved in their writing.

We will be using the Harcourt Series in Science. The series is divided into three areas: Life, Earth, and Physical Science. We will explore each area of Science this year including the human body.

We currently use Zaner-Bloser. Zaner-Bloser uses a step-by-step approach for teaching and learning handwriting. The four keys to legibility that are explored include shape, size, spacing, and slant. The students will be required to write in cursive after winter break.
