I graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1985 with a B.S. degree
in Elementary Education. I am certified by the State of Illinois to teach
grades K-9. I have experience at various levels. I served as an
instructional aide in a high school special education classroom and as an
aide in a fourth grade bilingual migrant program in which Spanish was the
prevalent language spoken. I also substituted at all grade levels,K-9,
before I relocated and started working full time.
I started my full time teaching career in 1986. I taught 2nd grade at
Je-Neir Elementary School in Momence, Illinois for 2 years. Also, I taught
the gifted students during the summer months. I was the girls Junior High
Track coach. In 1988, I married and relocated back to the Peoria area. For
two years I taught 1st and 2nd grade at St. Mark's school in Peoria. I am
starting my 17th year teaching 5th grade at Blessed Sacrament. In 2005 and
2006, I was honored as one of America's best teachers in the 2005 and 2006
edition of "Who's Who Among America's Teachers." Less than 2% of the
nation's teachers are multiple year honorees. I was nominated for this
award by two successful former students. This honor was very gratifying for
me. It makes me proud to know that I made a difference in a couple of my
student's lives.
God has blessed my husband, Gary, and I with a beautiful family. Gary
and I have been married for 20 years. We have two children: Sara, who is 18
and will attend the University of Illinois this Fall and Ryan who will be a
Freshman at Morton High School. Lucky is our 10 year old Golden Retriever.
We enjoy playing tennis,
golfing, vacationing, fishing and just being together doing things as a
family.
I feel blessed being able to teach at Blessed Sacrament School. It
truly is a special place.
Our 5th grade classroom should be a safe place that has an environment
conducive to learning. We will use a variety of techniques and strategies
to grow academically as well as spiritually this school year. We will
learn, as well as have fun this year. " To teach is to make a difference."
