Homework

GOALS FOR THE TYPICAL WEEK: (at least in my dream world)

8:00-8:20 MORNING STUDYHALLS
Students may choose to go to morning study hall for help from a teacher
(Tuesday through Friday), or may go to the library for silent reading time
and AR testing. On Mondays, students may go to the computer lab for AR
testing or silent reading. Otherwise, they are eating breakfast or in the gym
reading with their friends. STUDENTS MAY NOT COME TO OUR CLASSROOM EARLY
UNLESS THEY HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH ME. IF YOU NEED HELP, PLEASE MAKE A PLAN!

8:30 - 9:00 MATH WARM UPS (WHOLE GROUP)
     Rocket Math for facts practices.
Acc. Math - should have 40 objectives mastered by Friday.
Hands-On Algebra with manipulatives or Problem of the Day.

9:00 - 9:30 GRADE 5 MATH (lessons 96-100)
Fifth graders are learning how functions affect numbers, will
observe how transversals work, practice finding the measure of an angle using
the other angles, and will continue restating percents, fractions and
decimals. The last lesson of the year covers integers.

9:30 - 10:00 GRADE 5 MATH (lessons 92-95)
Fourth graders are learning how to divide fractions, use ratios, will
learn about negative numbers, and will practice aadding and subtracting
decimal numbers. The last lesson of the year covers simplifying decimals.

10:00 - 10:45 SPECIAL CLASSES -- music or PE, then bathroom break.

10:45 - 11:15 ENGLISH/GRAMMAR
In the computer lab we will continue working on our historical
newsletter. Students will use MS Publisher to create the newsletter about
historical Paris and Edgar County topics. We'll use this time period to work
on the history project, the indepedent study, or the book report.

Any students who have completed their Independent Study projects may
present it ahead of time. The rest of the days we are actively writing and
preparing projeccts.

11:15 - 11:45 READING
We are using all reading times to complete AR points and the book report
for "Tuck Everlasting." This project should be finished by
Friday.

11:45-12:30 RECESS AND LUNCH
Recess for 15 minutes, then regular lunch plans. Some fifth grade
students have early lunch in order to accommodate their band lesson schedules.

12:30-1:00 ART ENRICHMENT/SSR/PRESENTATIONS
Students may complete their art projects or read silently. Quiet
readers may select a comfortable seat anywhere in the room. This week I am
beginning the first perspective drawings. It is a great way to focus!

1:30 - 2:00 SPELLING
This week we have the last of the Mastery Tests. Spelling times will be
used to work on projects.

2:00 - 2:30 SOCIAL STUDIES
We are still in pioneer history, both in our local history unit and in
the Pioneers game. We'll complete several short writing assignments to earn
movement points in our Pioneers simulation game. The Fate Bulletins, strange
things that may happen on the trail west, are usually favorites of the class!

Students should be practicing for the States and Caps test on Monday, Tuesday
and Thursday. Students get 4 "tries" to master the identification of 50
states and their capitals, all spelled correctly, of course. I do give wacky
hints at the end of the test. Students who have been practicing have an
advantage!

2:30 - 3:00 ACADEMIC REVIEW PERIOD
Assignments from any subject may be worked on. I will be working with
individuals, and sometimes small groups, on areas that need extra practice.

3:00-3:30 AFTER SCHOOL STUDYHALL (Monday thru Wednesday, Friday)
Students who need assistance in any subject may request an after school study
hall. On some days we can stay until 4:00. Please make an appointment with me
to be sure I do not have a meeting or other activity.

3:00-4:00 Thursday GARDEN CLUB
