Our embryology study along with this webquest meet the following state
science standards:
Learning Standard 11A: Know and apply the concepts, principle and processes
of scientific inquiry.
More specifically:
11A.1a: Describe an observed event.
11A.1b: Develop questions on scientific topics.
(This standard is partly met through our unit. We get to observe the eggs
through candling and get to see the chicks hatch. This webquest also allows
the students to see eggs being candled. The "W" section of the KWL allows
them to develop questions. Plus, the chickscope web site allows us to see
the development of egg to chick.)
Learning Standard 12A: Know and apply concepts that explain how living things
function, adapt and change.
More specifically:
12A.1a. Identify and describe the component parts of living things and their
major functions.
12A1b. Categorize living organisms using a variety of observable features.
(This standard is met through various components of this webquest. First by
having students look at and fill in the parts of an egg on a diagram. Also
by distinguishing between oviparous and viviparous animals. Students are
able to categorize different oviparous animals into distinct groups.)
