****Please remember that your child will be bringing home the reading book
at least one time each week to practice
reading the story
. Each week, we
will read the "Get Started" story to help with our phonics, but the main
story is listed above. Your child will need to be able to read and
comprehend the story in order to be prepared for the test each
Friday. The current story is also listed on my weekly newsletter
that is sent home each Friday.
Math
Our math series teaches concepts in a unit fashion, so your child will be
focusing on a particular skill for several lessons before being testing on
those skills.
Our next units will be Topic 11 (Tens and Ones), Topic 12 (Comparing and Ordering Numbers to 100), and Topic 13 (Counting Money).
Spelling
Each list goes hand in hand with the weekly reading story. A pretest is
given on Monday of each week. Any child who gets all words correct
on the pretest will be given a challenge list. Please refer to my detailed
note that was sent home concerning challenge lists. We practice the
word lists in various ways on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The
weekly test is given on Friday.

February is here once again. Happy Leap Year to everyone! We have so much to do in order to be ready to show off for you at our Open House, which will be on February 24 from 6:00-7:00. I hope that all parents can make it. We will also learn about Abraham Lincoln, George Washington and our teeth. In addition to those mini-units, we will sprinkle in some Valentine's Day and Groundhog Day...such a busy month in the first grade!
