I am extremely excited to be teaching 2nd grade at Woodrow Wilson! This is my
seventh year of teaching, and I love the challenge each new year brings. I
have lived in East Peoria my entire life, and I feel it's a wonderful place to
call home. I attended Shute School, CJHS, and EPCHS before attending Bradley
University. I earned my master's degree in teaching and leadership
from St. Xavier University in 2010. Besides working on school projects and
lesson plans I enjoy spending time with my family: my parents (Tim and Lyn
Jeffers), my sister Janelle and her husband Mike, and my sister Jennifer, her
husband Doug, and their son Hunter and daughter Lily. I also spend a lot of
time volunteering for various activities at my church. My favorite place to
vacation is my grandparent's farm in Tennessee. It's a great place to just
relax and unwind. Some of my other favorites include cheering for the Chicago
Cubs and going out for coffee with my friends.
Respectfulness, politeness, and responsibility are characteristics that are
expected from both the students and the teacher. We are working to create
well-rounded, responsible citizens of the school and the community who will
be able to contribute their skills and talents to others. Success starts with
a good attitude and cooperation between the student, the teacher, and the
home.
In second grade, students will learn how to read fluently, comprehend what
they are reading, appropriately use reading strategies, apply phonics, carry
when adding, borrow when subtracting, count money, tell time, determine
temperature, write an essay, explore the solar system, name the parts of the
human body, read a tall tale, study dinosaurs, and much, much more. Having
fun is also something we like to do while we learn, too!
