About The Teacher

I grew up in Eureka, IL and graduated from Eureka High School. I received
my Associates Degree from Illinois Central College and my Bachelors Degree
from Bradley University. While at ICC I met my husband, Benjamin, who is a
wonderful man. We have been married for 8 years and just became parents last
October. Daniel is growing fast and we are having so much fun with him. We
also have two dogs (chocolate labs), a cat, and a fish. Our favorite pastime
is enjoying the outdoors with our dogs - Toby and Chester (There actual names
are Toblerone Orion of Heatherwood and Winchester Rigel of Wilson). Our
cat's name is Streak and our fish lives in my classroom with the name of Mr.
Bubbles - given to him by my first graders this year. I absolutely love
teaching first grade at Woodrow Wilson and couldn't have asked for anything
more.

My Teaching Mission

Teaching is a unique opportunity to impact many young lives. Teachers are
given the responsibility of inspiring students to enjoy learning and realize
the importance of it throughout life. I am very committed to my position as
an educator and willing to take the extra step to help students succeed.
The most successful environment for learning is one that is welcoming and
comfortable yet challenges students to reach their full potential.

I believe it is important to hold high expectations for students so they are
continually working and striving to improve themselves. Knowing their
teacher believes in their abilities and success, students are much more
likely to achieve their goals. Also, because of the variety of learning
styles and abilities, it is imperative to offer a variety of teaching styles
and strategies. When students have an active role in their learning, they
internalize the information much more. For this reason, facilitating
learning is much more effective than dictating instruction. If given the
appropriate opportunities, students can learn through many adventures and
discoveries throughout their education. My overall goal, as an educator, is
to inspire my students to gain the love of learning and the confidence to
continue to ask questions throughout their lives.
