Class Discipline

We will be working together as a class to develop mutual respect,
cooperation and responsibility in our classroom. We will have classroom
meetings at least once per week to help students learn to communicate and to
solve problems.

In addition to classroom meetings, we also have a card system in our
classroom. We have classroom rules that the students came up with at the
beginning of the school year. The rules are usually things like being kind to
others, raising hands before speaking, taking turns, follow directions/listen,
etc. We have a chart in our room that has a pocket with 4 cards for each
student. Every pocket has a green card, a yellow card, a blue card, an
orange, and a red card. When a rule is broken, students will pull a card.
The following consequences will be followed:

"Offense" - card pulled - now on color - consequence
              1st - green - yellow - warning
              2nd - yellow - blue - 5 min. of recess
              3rd - blue - red - minor
4 or more - phone call home - possibly talk with principal

Three minors equal a major offense. When a students gets a major, a note will
come home that needs to be signed & returned the very next day. Each 9 week
period our school has a celebration for students who have not gotten any
majors. Students who got a major(s) will go to a class to practice positive
behaviors instead of attending the celebration. PBIS (Positive Behavioral
Interventions and Supports) is the name of our school-wide discipline plan.
More information will be given about this at Parent Orientation.

This discipline system seems to help students remember to take control of
their own behavior and to make good choices.
