About The Teacher

I live in Eureka with my husband, Dean (head custodian at Davenport) my
two daughters Grace (10 years old - going into 5th grade), Hope(5 years
old - going into Kdg.), our miniature schnauzer (Gidget), my dad's cat that we
adopted (Buddy), and a small pond with gold fish. Dean and I met when I
student taught at Davenport with Mrs. Penny Sides (now retired 1st grade
teacher). Mrs. Sides and Mrs. Schieber (also retired 1st grade
teacher)conspired to "set" Dean and I up. Our first date was Davenport's staff
Christmas dinner (1984). Dean and I have been married for 26 years. After 15
years of marriage, we were blessed with Grace. She is an active, inquisitive
young lady. Even though Hope was born with heart defects, she is MIGHTY! She
had open heart surgery 2 summers ago and is doing very well! Hope is so much
fun and is always doing and learning so much. God has blessed us with a
wonderful family!
I attained a B.A. in Elementary Education at Eureka College and an M.S.
in Special Education at I.S.U. I have taught for 24 years, this being my 11th
year in 2nd grade. I believe that Second grade is the best grade to teach! I
believe that my main job is helping students develop independent work habits
and social skills such as how to work well with others and to develop
self-confidence. My next most important job is teaching children HOW to learn
because learning is a life-long adventure for all of us! Reading is my
favorite subject to teach because I can learn and teach about everything
through this subject!
My hobbies include playing with my girls, camping, traveling, landscaping
& sewing. I am also very busy being a Girl Scout leader for about 22 3rd -
6th graders!

Mission For The Class

I want to create an educational home in which students:

*feel loved and respected by others and by myself.
*understand that school IS their job & is preparing them for any job they may
choose in their future.
*develop their communication skills.
*listen to and value other people’s ideas and opinions.
*learn that mistakes are natural and necessary.
*develop responsibility and understand the relationship between responsibility
and a good work ethic.
*learn that hard work is how people get things done.
*learn more about their interests through reading.
*have fun while learning.
*learn various ways to solve social problems.
*make new friends and develop skills for making and keeping good relationships.
