Is the University of Michigan the best college?
Silly question. Of course it is!
What novels might we read during the school year?
Possible texts include The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, Shabanu by S.F.
Staples,
Daniel's Story by Carol Matas, Macbeth by William Shakespeare, and a
mythology book by either Edith Hamilton or Mary Pope Osborne.
What is the best part of 8th-grade literature and English?
Obviously, YOU are the best part of my class! Hopefully, you will also
enjoy
job interviews, the Shakespeare Festival, writing essays (tee hee!), and a
mythology banquet.
Certainly everyone also enjoys preparing for the ISAT tests! (tee hee)
Is it true that there is an independent page requirement?
Yes. For the first quarter, eighth graders are required to read 500 pages
of
outside reading. By the end of the year, the independent reading goal will
climb as high as 2,000 pages. Higher goals will be available for incentive
trips.
What supplies will I need for class?
I ask each student to donate a ream of paper and three pencils. You will
also need to have a four different colored highlighters, blue or black
ink pens, and a folder for English & a folder for literature. A journal will
be supplied in class. You should always have an independent reading book
with you. A good attitude and a willingness to learn are also appreciated.
What can I do to prepare for your class over the summer?
Read, read, read, read. :)
Who are the members of the 2011 JV Basketball Team?
Congratulations to everyone who tried out for the junior varsity basketball
team. Mr. Lacko and I are very proud of your efforts, and we hope that if you did not make
the team this year, you will keep working on your skills and try-out again
next year!
