What are the novels covered in 6th grade?
Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes
Number the Stars
Hatchet
Maniac Magee
Island of the Blue Dolphins
*We also cover two literature circle novels of your choice.
How much homework can we expect?
For the most part, daily homework is to read 20 minutes. From time
to time, there will be a written response to literature that will
need to be finished at home.
Is there a requirement for literature class?
Yes, each quarter every student reads at least 2 Accelerated Reader
Books and successfully takes the tests. With my okay, a student may
write a report or make a test if the book they're interested in is
not on the AR list.
Are there extra credit opportunities?
Yes, any AR books above and beyond the 2 required books earn extra
credit. For each, another A is averaged in your Grade Point Average.
What kind of a teacher are you?
I love to teach and I love students. I think that I'm firm, but
friendly and fair. Books and reading are one of my passions, and I
hope that my enthusiasm is catching. I like to have fun, and I hope
that you'll have fun learning with me.
