Homework

First Quarter! Homework will begin this quarter. Students will start slowly
but build up as the year progresses. I would like each student to read a
library book of their choice for 20 minutes each night...right before going
to bed is a great way to calm down and get ready for your nightly rest. There
will be some type of word practice each day. Monday and Thursday will be
sounds practice. Tuesday will be alphabetical order. Thursday will be using
words to create different types of sentences. Students will have math
homework if they did not complete the assignment in math class or at some
time during the day.

We make a real effort each day to make sure that students have all needed
papers, books and materials with them to do their work. Please call me any
time that you need to if you have any questions,or you can write questions in
the students' assignment books. All assignments will be written in students'
assignment notebooks. If the assignment was completed, one of the teachers
will initial that we have seen the finished work and that the work was turned
in before the student left. This way no one has to guess if the work still
needs to be completed or not! We check to make sure that assignments listed
in the assignment book are correct and LEGIBLE. If the assignment has no
initials, then it was not completed and needs to be finished at home! It's an
easy system and it works! Again, please call if you have any questions at
all! 630-894-4467!

P.S. About the math...I know that sometimes the way that today's students are
learning to compute (especially multiplication or division) may be a
different method than the way that you yourself were taught. That's okay! The
whole point is to show students that there can be more than just one way to
solve problems. So please feel free to help your child using the same methods
that you were shown in school and let your student show you the new ways that
your child is learning. There is no better way to learn a method then to
teach it to someone else!
