You can reach me directly in the classroom at 534-7488, or through the main office 790-6450.
I have been an educator for over twenty years. During the
last sixteen years at Hadley Jr. High I have taught 6th, 7th and 8th
grade Language Arts/Reading, and 6th grade Social Studies
I have two teaching certificates, Type 06 and 09, which were earned at
Governors State University. I am certified to teach Kindergarten-9th grade-all
subject areas; I am also certified to teach 6th-12th grade English and Social
Science.
In 1999 I completed my Masters Degree in Educational Leadership through St.
Xavier University. During the past two years I have added an additional sixty
graduate hours to my teaching degree in the area of technology, reading,
social science, and language arts.
I live in the town of Darien. In addition to teaching, I enjoy spending time
with my daughter Sarah (also a teacher), her husband Armando, and my
grandchildren:Adrianna(17), Rebecca (10), and Matthew (8). I also enjoy
playing with my grandchildren, reading, gardening, traveling, and being a
lifelong learner.
My goal for the Social Studies class is to encourage and explore a deeper
understanding of how we learn. Using the art of communication we will be
fostering an appreciation for the cultures of other civilizations, past and
present; this will help us make connections that will guide us to an
understanding of the world we live in.
I like to incorporate collaborative and individual hands-on activities
whenever possible.

Homework is due on the date assigned. Assignments will be explained on the
first day of each week; they will also be available on the Hadley Weekly
Homework page; this can be found on my website too. Each student will be
maintaining a working Social Studies Portfolio, which will be used to monitor
progress, goals and will be used for student-led conferences after each unit
of study. This portfolio will need to be brought to class each day unless
otherwise noted.
Homework assignments, classroom discussions, and coming prepared to class will
all be considered for assessment for learning. Quizzes, projects and tests
will be considered for academic assessment.
Remember to include reading assignments, and studying for exams as part of
your regular homework routine. Working equally hard on all tasks will almost
certainly guarantee a good grade.

be brought to class-classroom textbooks will be provided.
