Welcome to Technology Class! The primary goal this course is to provide
students with a variety of computer skills that will be useful throughout the
remainder of their education and into their lives beyond school. The
Technology Class is an Exploratory Course in middle school; an emphasis is
placed on learning to use tools that will be most useful as students complete
work for other classes. An emphasis is also placed on developing high-level
thinking skills and creating knowledge and skills that will be used in
everyday lives inside and outside of the educational setting.
Course Description:
All TECHNOLOGY students will be exposed to a variety of assignments centered
on various computer activities.

KEYBOARDING
•Explore correct techniques of keyboarding
WORD PROCESSING (Microsoft Word/ Publisher)
•Explain the purpose of a word processor
•Manipulate text (insert, delete, align, change fonts, style, size, and
color)
•Create, add and alter graphics
•Edit documents (thesaurus function and spell check)
•Change document layout (margin, page orientation, spacing, and blank lines)
•Use a variety of graphic tools
•Compose a word processing document
MICROSOFT EXCEL (Spreadsheet/Graphs)
•Identify purpose and functions of spreadsheets
•Identify the components of spreadsheets (cells, rows, and columns)
•Demonstrate the use of a formula (average)
•Create and modify the display of a chart or graph
PRESENTATION SOFTWARE (PowerPoint/Smart Notebook/Movie Maker)
•Identify the purpose and uses of presentation software
•Demonstrate understanding of the tools of software programs and their uses
(browser, edit, select and text tool)
•Add new pages to a project
•Demonstrate understanding of modification of background appearance
•Import and edit graphics (resize and move)
•Demonstrate understanding of text fields
•Add movies and sounds to projects
•Create a project and save it
•Present work to the class
Class Work - Technology is unique because all work is done during class time.
Students are allowed to take their work home after receiving credit from the
instructor. There will be no homework in this class. However, students are
expected to prepare for quizzes and exams.
Class Attendance - Students are expected to attend all classes. If a student
is absent it is the student’s responsibility catch up any work missed during
the absence. For extended absences, the student will be given alternative
work time to make up which may include assignments to be completed at home.
Evaluation - The final course grade will be determined as shown

Students Must
-Following all classroom/computer lab rules
-Follow classroom instructions
-Follow all assignment requirements
-Be on task at all times
-Go onto the internet only when instructed

Strike 1- Verbal Warning
Strike 2- Redirection/Classroom write-up/Lunch Detention
Strike 3- Remove student from class/Office Referral
Grading Categories
Participation 15% - Work Ethic/Behavior
Formative 50% - Daily Assignments, Keyboarding, Large Projects
Summative 35% - Presentations, Exam/Quiz
Grading Scale:
A = 92-100 C =72-77
A- = 90-91 C-= 70-71
B+= 88-89 D+ = 68-69
B = 82-87 D= 62-67
B- = 80-81 D-=60-61
C+ = 78-79 F = 59 ↓
